How to Use the Army Pin-iT Card
The Army Pin-iT Card helps place ribbons, unit awards, U.S. insignia, branch insignia, and rank insignia with better speed and accuracy. Follow the guide below to line everything up correctly on your Army uniform.
What the Army Pin-iT Card Helps You Do
The Army Pin-iT Card is designed to help you line up common uniform items using built-in guide lines, labeled notches, etched dotted lines, and cutouts. Instead of guessing, you can use the card to get consistent placement on pockets and collars.
- Place ribbons and unit awards 1/8 inch above the pocket.
- Align male officer U.S. insignia on the jacket collar.
- Align male and female officer branch insignia on the jacket collar.
- Align enlisted male U.S. and branch insignia on the jacket collar.
- Align rank insignia on the shirt collar using either the front or back of the card.
Ribbons and Unit Awards
Use the 1/8 inch line on the back of the Army Pin-iT Card for this step.
- Place the Army Pin-iT Card against the pocket area.
- Align the 1/8 inch line so it is resting directly on top of the pocket seam.
- Set your ribbons so they are resting on the Pin-iT Card.
- Use the same process for your unit awards on the other pocket.
- Once placed this way, your ribbons and unit awards will sit perfectly 1/8 inch above the pocket.
The key takeaway is simple: use the 1/8 inch guide line and rest the ribbons or unit awards on the card.
Male Officer U.S. Insignia
Use the dotted lines labeled MO on the Army Pin-iT Card.
- Place the Pin-iT Card on your jacket collar.
- Position it so the MO line is even with your lapel seams.
- Place your U.S. insignia in the notch at the top of the card labeled U.S. INSIGNIA.
- Make sure the dot in the U.S. insignia lines up with the gold dotted line.
- Make sure the bottom of the U.S. insignia is resting in the notch on the Pin-iT Card.
- For the other collar, flip the Pin-iT Card over and repeat the same process.
The two most important checkpoints here are that the MO line stays even with the lapel seams and the insignia dot lines up with the gold dotted line.
Male and Female Officer Branch Insignia
Use the etched dotted lines on the front of the Pin-iT Card for officer branch insignia placement.
- Place the Pin-iT Card on your jacket collar so that the U.S. insignia is resting on top of the Pin-iT Card.
- Make sure the dot in the U.S. insignia is lined up with the etched dotted line.
- Next, place your branch insignia on the Pin-iT Card so that the bottom of the insignia is resting on the bottom of the Pin-iT Card.
- Center the branch insignia so that the middle of the insignia intersects the etched dotted line.
- Pin the branch insignia into your jacket collar and wiggle the insignia slightly to leave small holes.
- Remove both the insignia and the Pin-iT Card.
- Insert your branch insignia back into the holes you left behind on the collar.
- Repeat the same instructions for the other side.
This method helps you use the card as a positioning guide first, then use the tiny holes as your final placement marks.
Enlisted Male U.S. and Branch Insignia
Use the dotted lines labeled EM on the Army Pin-iT Card.
- Place the Pin-iT Card on your jacket collar.
- Set it so the EM line is even with your lapel seams.
- Place your U.S. insignia disk in the notch at the top of the Pin-iT Card labeled U.S. INSIGNIA.
- Make sure the dot in the U.S. insignia lines up with the gold dotted line.
- Make sure the bottom of the U.S. insignia is resting in the notch on the card.
- Flip the Pin-iT Card over and repeat the same process on the other collar.
This section follows the same placement idea as the male officer U.S. insignia section, but it uses the EM line and the enlisted disk.
Rank Insignia on Shirt Collar Using the Front of the Card
This method uses the front of the Army Pin-iT Card and the guide lines labeled on the card.
- Place the Army Pin-iT Card on the collar so that the bottom of the card is resting on the lower edge of the collar.
- Make sure the bottom right corner of the card is touching the top corner of the collar.
- Locate the yellow dotted line on the Pin-iT Card labeled Center Line.
- This will mark where the center of your collar device sits, 1 inch from the lower edge of the collar.
- Locate the dotted stainless steel line running vertical.
- Ensure that the center of your collar device lines up with that stainless steel line.
- This will ensure that the device is properly aligned on the collar.
The important part here is using both the collar edge and the center line together so the device is both the right distance up and properly centered.
Rank Insignia on Shirt Collar Using the Back of the Card
This method uses the back of the Pin-iT Card.
- Locate the cutout labeled Collar Devices and the yellow dotted line labeled Center Line.
- Place the Army Pin-iT Card on the shirt collar so that the line labeled Center Line is bisecting the tip of the collar.
- Slide the Pin-iT Card up on the collar so that the 1 inch line on the side of the card is at the point of the collar.
- Make sure the yellow line is centered.
- Then place the bottom of your rank insignia on the edge of the Pin-iT Card.
- This will ensure your insignia is 1 inch up and centered from the collar point.
The process is basically: center the tip, slide to the 1 inch mark, then set the insignia against the card edge.
